Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo Join Wigan On Loan

Liverpool youngster, Sheyi Ojo has joined Wigan Athletic on a youth loan until the end of the season.

The 17-year-old has trained with the Reds’ first team this season and was included in match day squad for Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Leicester City on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Ojo, who joined Liverpool from Milton Keynes Dons in 2011, has played for both of the Merseyside club’s Under-18 and Under-21 academies this season, with five appearances in the club’s Uefa Youth League campaign.

He becomes the Latics’ fifth signing of the winter transfer window and the first player, since Chris Kirkland in 2006, to move between both clubs.

The Championship club boss Malky Mackay said: “I spoke to Brendan Rodgers at length about Sheyi and we both agreed that this is the next stage of his development. Brendan sees him as a Liverpool player of the future and will take him into his squad in the summer. We both hope that his time at Wigan Athletic can be a productive one for both parties.

“I have watched him and was excited by what I saw in terms of his pace, touch and awareness. Now it’s a question of integrating him with our squad and managing his progress carefully.”

Ojo has represented England at both U-17 and U-18 levels and is eligible for Nigeria.
