Kelechi Nwakali’s late strike against Guinea rescued a point for Nigeria in their penultimate group game of the Africa Under-17 Championship in Niger republic on Wednesday.

Sam Diallo placed Guinea in ascendancy from the penalty spot in the opening quarter, before skipper Nwakali ensured Nigeria retained poll position in Group A, converting from the penalty spot with 8 minutes left.

Guinea ended the match with ten men as midfielder Alseny Soumah saw red for a second bookable offence on 86 minutes.

Nigeria now need at least a draw in their final group game to secure their passage into the semi-final of the championship and clinch a ticket for the Fifa Under-17 World Cup later this year.

The Golden Eaglets, 2-0 winners against hosts Niger Republic in their opening game, will face debutantes Zambia on Saturday.

Guinea were 1-0 winners over Zambia last Sunday and will now look to outwit Niger to join Nigeria in the last 4.

Niger are up against Zambia in a do-or-die second game of Match Day 3.
