Paderborn 0-6 Bayern: Bundesliga Leaders Run Riot Again

Bayern Munich extended their Bundesliga lead after another comfortable victory at Paderborn.

Lewandowski twice scored in the first half to help the Bavarians take initiative. Arjen Robben also grabbed a brace while Mitchell Weiser netted his first Bundesliga goal and Franck Ribery got among the goals in another riot.

Manager Pep Guardiola tweaked the champions after the midweek tiresome draw away in Ukraine by naming Mario Gotze and Bastian Schweinsteiger on the bench.

Bayern were soon on the front foot at the Benteler Arena, with Polish international Lewandowski finishing off from Arjen Robben’s lovely flick in the 24 minute and then poked in at the near post his tenth goal of the season shortly before the break.

The home crowd only had Alban Meha’s swerving long-range effort, which skidded just wide of Manuel Neuer’s goal, to cheer in the first half with Bayern, as has become tradition of late, dominated.

Paderborn were reduced to ten men two minutes after the hour mark when Florian Hartherz received his marching order for fouling Robben in the box. The Netherlands international stepped up to convert the penalty and put Bayern 3-0 up after the break. The goal means Robben has now seen the back of the net of every club in the German top flight.

Ribery swiveled into the area and smashed home from 15 yards after collecting a poor headed clearance and Germany Under-20 Weiser opened his Bundesliga account with a lovely lob over home goalkeeper Lukas Kruse six minutes later.

Robben completed his brace four minutes from time following a superb work from Ribery as Bayern improved their goal difference by 14 in just two games following last weekend’s 8-0 mauling of Hamburger SV.

Meha also watched his audacious 50-yard lob effort sail narrowly over Neuer’s goal in the second half, with the German World Cup winner off his line.

The win increased Bayern’s lead at the summit to 11 points with a +50 goal difference after 22 games.

Second-placed Wolfsburg are at home to Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
