The much-publicised friendly match between Nigeria and Brazil has failed to see the light of the day, three months after its revelation.
Governor Godswill Akpabio, during the inauguration ceremony of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo, last November, hinted about a high-profile international friendly between Nigeria and four-time World Champions Brazil in March.
Such match-up, which would have been the second between A Selecao and the three-time African champions, will now have to wait further after the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced it will play Chile instead on 29 March.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) retained hopes all the while that Nigeria would play host to coach Dunga’s Brazil on 29 March, in Uyo.
Nigeria hosted Brazil in 2003 in Abuja, a match which the former world champions- made up of a second fringe squad- won 3-0.
The Super Eagles will now play another South American side, Bolivia, on 26 March in Uyo.
How the phantom Nigeria-Brazil friendly vanished without a trace is yet to be unraveled but the game against Bolivia will nonetheless help the Eagles prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
