Atletico Madrid will look to avenge their defeat to city rivals Real Madrid in last season’s Lisbon final of the Uefa Champions League in a two-legged quarter-finals tie with the reigning champions on 14 and 22 April.
The draw for the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of Europe’s elite eight teams was conducted by Uefa General Secretary, Gianni Infantino, in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday. Former Germany striker and Berlin final ambassador, Karl-Heinz Riedle, assisted in plucking the sides out of the hats.
Real defeated Atletico 4-1 after extra-time to claim their tenth European Cup last May. Both capital sides also clashed in the 1958/59 semi-finals, with the Los Merengues triumphing 2-1 in a replay after a 2-2 draw.
The Los Roji Blancos will fancy their chances against their rivals this term, as they are yet to lose in six of their match-ups in all competitions- Spanish Super Cup, Liga and Copa del Rey- since last year’s final.
French champions Paris St-Germain are pitted against La Liga leaders Barcelona in a repeat of their group stage pairing earlier this season.
Paris won 3-2 at the Parc des Princes but lost 3-1 at the Camp Nou. They also met in the 2012/13 quarter-finals, Barcelona prevailing on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw.
All 2015 quarter-finalists have 23 titles between them. The side drawn first will play the first leg at home, with the ties scheduled for 14/15 and 21/22 April.
The 2015 final is billed for Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on 6 June.
