President Goodluck Jonathan said Tuesday in Abuja that utmost care was being taken by the Federal Government to avoid collateral damage to the lives and properties of civilians as the military intensifies its ongoing offensive against Boko Haram.
Speaking at an audience with the new South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Noh Kyu-Duk, President Jonathan said everything possible was also being done by the military to avoid human rights violations in the theatre of operations in the North Eastern states.
“We are sticking to international best practices in prosecuting the war against terrorism and doing our best to ensure that we don’t have cases of human rights abuses in the North-East.
“We are consistently monitoring the situation and have investigated previous reports of such abuse which were mostly blown out of proportion for political reasons.
“Our military has a reputation for discipline and we have insisted on that discipline and control for the safety of civilians in the North-East.
“The purpose of the entire operation is to save our people from the brutal tyranny of Boko Haram, so we cannot tolerate human rights abuses or willfully impose further suffering on them”, President Jonathan said.
The President also told Mr. Kyu-Duk that Nigeria’s entire security architecture was being reviewed, restructured and strengthened to ensure greater safety for Nigerians and foreign workers in all parts of the country.
“We are inviting all our friends in the international community, particularly those that are more technologically advanced, to complement our efforts to build a more secure and prosperous country in which our people and foreigners can live in peace and safety”, President Jonathan told the new South Korean Ambassador.
The President urged Mr. Kyu-Duk and his Indonesian counterpart, Harry Purwanto, who was also at the Presidential Villa to present his letters of credence, to work for the strengthening of existing trade and economic relations between Nigeria and their countries.
The new ambassadors thanked President Jonathan for receiving them and assured him that they will do their best to promote stronger economic and cultural relations between their countries and Nigeria during their tenure in Abuja.
Of course no human rights will be violated, the only thing that will be violated are those terrorists !!! they are not human.
I pray oh!! those boys get right sef? when dem catch dem finish na to butcher den like nnama. dem never get left finish , na right dem wan cum get ? shhuuuu na winsh behaviour be that na…
hope these guys are caught soon, many lives have been lost in this battle.lets prevail without any human rights violations.
I personally think that shouldn’t be their problem we need help and it was hard to get any, now they are concerned about HRV, well no civilians will be in harms way, but as for these terrorists their human rights have been stripped off.
Am barely worried about that, i just want this to end and those guys caught, and dealt with.
And when i think about what has been going in in this passed years, i still try so hard to fathom what really caused these chain of events that has made this nation an attraction, an attraction none the less but a very bad one, a nation that used to be so safe, peaceful and loving now a site for terrorist activities. Human right is something human beings are entitled to, civil people not inhuman people doing all sorts of barbaric acts jungle justice should be served to this people.
Jonathan is not a monster, human rights will be observed and applied where and when needed, and its not need with the boko haram terrorists sect.
This is to say President Jonathan’s strategy in the fight against these extremist is purely tactical.
I commend your effort Mr. president, and i respect and trust your judgment, it’s a sensitive matter basically but all this will be a story to tell, a thing of the past, History
They felt he was slow, they never knew he was being care of what the international community will say, it is good they saw his approach as acceptable.
Aii thanks to Mr President, i can go back to my farm lands.
I think this is an evidence of more good stuffs to come.
The aim of good governance is achieved when utmost care and concern for its citizen is taken seriously even at the execution of ones duties, President Goodluck has made us feel true democracy.
Together in prayers we shall be victorious in this fight.
Our amiable leader, may your days be long, thank you sir for your efforts.
Good president, we love Jonathan.
That’s the difference between you and GMB. Well done mr. president
Just as we voted for Gej in his first term, we will do it again.
Boko Haram deserves more than jungle justice.
Jonathan is not as daft as OBJ or Buhari is, every proper human right violation has been avoided before the assault.
I don’t get it. Do they need a human rights verification to get an assault on ISIS or Al-Qaeda?. What’s so special about this Islamic sect that a honorable organisation like the UN needs assurance for human right, after they’ve slaughtered innocent citizens for decades now.
Just killing these boko haram guys are no humans. They should be shown no mercy.
shooting and Killing them instantly is enough leniency, they are supposed to be fried alive with red oil like fish! Wicked boko haram sect, They are lucky GEJ is a loving and passionate man…
GEJ is a loving president, but these pigs are to be shown no mercy..
GEJ is a good leader! The end of boko haram is now!
This goes to show the concern of the president over the life of his citizens
These haramists are not regaarded as humans and therefor have no rights whatsoever that need protection
The military and the president are concerned about the lives and property of the Nigerian people. This is heart warming
