Skrtel Charged By the FA Over Alleged Stamp on De Gea

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has been hit with a Football Association (FA) charge of violent conduct.

The Slovakian defender appeared to thread on David De Gea’s leg in the final seconds of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Anfield.

Referee Martin Atkinson, who also awarded a red card for Steven Gerrard for dissent early on, did not see the incident, prompting the FA to take retrospective action.

An independent three-man panel of ex-Premier League referees reviewed video footage of the match and “then advised unanimously” that the 30-year-old should have been sent off.

The defender has until now and 6:00 GMT on Tuesday, 24 March to respond to the charge.
