FC Taraba edged a five goal thriller to hand Enugu Rangers a Glo Premier League opening day defeat at the Jolly Nyame Stadium on Sunday.
The match was evenly poised at the interval a goal apiece to either side but Abdulmalik Mohammed, who opened scores for Tijjani Babaginda’s side restored the home team’s advantage on 48 minutes.
Substitute Nura Ahmed grabbed Taraba’s third five minutes after the hour mark, heading in Yau Hassan’s cross.
Samuel Agba capitalized on a defensive mix-up to grab a consolation for the Flying Antelopes two minutes from time.
Rangers have not won a trophy in 31 years and will be looking to amend for the opening day loss in their next game.
Elsewhere Newly promoted Wikki Tourists defeated fellow neecomers Shooting Stars 2-0 in their opening game in Bauchi.
Former JUTH FC forward Victor Yakubu scored the first goal of the new Glo Premier League season in the sixth minute via a beautiful header.
Yakubu completed his brace from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.
