We’re Not Involved In Partisan Politics – Kwara CAN

The Kwara State chapter of Christain Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it is not against any political party in the state.

It also said it is not supporting any governorship candidate in the state.

The governorship contest is a two way race between incumbent Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of the APC and Sen. Simeon Ajibola of PDP.

In a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday, The Kwara CAN said its seminar of March 6 was never to get involved in politics.

The statement was signed by the state CAN chairman, Prof. Timothy Opoola, and Secretary, Revd Reuben Ibitoye.

It, therefore, called on Christians to remain calm and continue to remain peace-loving.

The statement described as false, reports that the Christian body was planning to cause religious crisis in the state.

The statement reads in part: “It is alleged that Kwara CAN is against a political party and its standard bearer and that Christians want to initiate religious conflicts in the state. While Kwara CAN has pending issues with the state government, the seminar was not organised as a result of such issues.

“Our intention, by organising the seminar, was never to get involved in politics. The focus was the survival and sustenance of the church, while the objective is the security consciousness of the entire Christians in the state”.
