A teenager arrested by Enugu police over allegedly killing his cousin on Easter, April 5, blamed Satan for his evil act.
The Punch reports that the crime took place in Oji River LGA of the state. On Easter morning Ifeanyi Ihejika shot his relative with a locally made pistol and ran away.
However, he was soon caught by the police on suspicion of the murder.
Ebere Amaraizu, the spokesman of the Enugu state police command, confirmed the development adding that the weapon had been recovered from the suspect upon detention.
The police official further disclosed how the teenager explained his act:
“The suspect is saying that the act is the handiwork of Satan.”
The motives of the murder are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile as the April 11 governorship election in Nigeria approaches, the Enugu state police command urges people to remain law-abiding before and after the polls.
“Any violation of any sections of the law as it affects the Electoral Act and the election, as well as the peace accord duly signed by all the political parties in the state with their aspirants, would be viewed seriously as offenders will be arraigned properly in a law court.”
