Senate President, David Mark, has congratulated the President-elect, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), for emerging victorious in Saturday’s presidential election.
Mark said Buhari winning the poll was a “reflection” of the wishes of the majority of Nigerians, who elected him as the next President of the country.
The senate president, who won re-election to the senate for a record fifth term in the polls, described the victory as a reward for Buhari’s resilience as a politician.
In a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, Mark, however, called on Buhari to be magnanimous in victory by carrying all Nigerians, irrespective of their political divide and creed, along in his agenda for Nigeria.
Mark was also full of praises for Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, whom he said demonstrated sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the poll and congratulating the winner.
He noted that history would be kind to Jonathan for this singular act.
Mark added that the result of the election was a victory for democracy, advising Nigerians to remain united and peaceful.
His statement eulogised Jonathan more, “President Jonathan has assumed a clear leadership in the comity of African nations where Heads of Government are perceived to be sit-tight leaders.
“He (President Jonathan) has set a classic acceptance of the aphorism that power belongs to God and He grants whoever He pleases.
“For this, history will be kind to him”.
