Serena Williams cruised to an eighth Miami Open title via a convincing victory over Carla Suarez Navarro on Saturday.
The world No. 1 sailed to a 6-2 6-0 win in 56 minutes to become only the fourth woman after Martina Nevratilova, Steffi Graf and Chris Evert to win the same WTA tournament at least eight times.
Suarez Navarro, who is set for her top-10 debut next week, won just two games in a subdued performance against the 33-year-old, who reeled off the final ten games in a commanding display.
Spain’s Suarez Navarro began well, and threatened a break of serve at 2-2 30-30, but Williams fended off her efforts with successive aces.
After claiming her third set point with a superb forehand winner, amidst torrent of winners; the American faced a break point for the first time at the start of the second set.
Williams upped the antics, snatching 23 out of 25 points to close out her third straight title at Crandon Park.
