Nigeria under-20 international, Obinna Nwobodo has been ruled out of next month’s World Youth championship with a cruciate ligament injury.
The Enugu Rangers’ midfielder picked up the injury during an African Youth Championship (AYC) showdown between the Flying Eagles and Senegal in April.
The youngster is now expected to be sidelined for up to nine months after his imminent surgery.
He was initially named in coach Manu Garba’s provisional 35-man squad for this year’s tournament, which begins in New Zealand on 30 May, but will therefore not travel with the side for a training camp in Germany on Saturday.
Officials of both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) are working towards having him flown out to overseas for rehabilitation.
