23-Year-Old Belgian Footballer Dies Of Heart Failure

Another Belgian footballer, Tim Nicot, has died of cardiac failure within two weeks of the passing on of Gregory Martens.

The 23-year-old left-back played for fourth-tier club based in Antwerp, Wilrijk-Beerschot. According to Brussels-based newspaper, Belga, Nicot was playing in a friendly tournament in Hemiksem when he collapsed on Friday.

He was revived on the pitch and placed in an induced coma. His club confirmed his death on Monday.

SC Lokeren defender, Gregory Mertens died after collapsing during a reserve game on 30 April.

The 24-year-old Belgian youth international likewise received treatment on the pitch before being placed in an induced coma in hospital.
