Argentine defender Cristian Gomez passed on, on Sunday after collapsing during a game for his club Atletico Parana.
The 27-year-old landed unconscious on the pitch on 30 minutes of their match against Boca Unidos in a second division football.
“We tried to revive him and he died on the way to hospital,” Miguel Darre, doctor of home team Boca Unidos, said.
League football in Argentina had only resumed this weekend after San Martin Burzaco’s Emanuel Ortega died after sustaining serious head injuries.
Ortega collided with an opposition player and crashed into a concrete wall surrounding the pitch during a Primeira C match against Juventud Unida On 14 May.
The 21-year-old had emergency surgery on skull fracture and died five days later after failing to come out of coma.
