Senate To Hold Late Chukwumerije’s Valedictory Session Next Week

Uche-ChukwumerijeThe Senate will next week Wednesday hold a special valedictory session for its Chairman, Committee on Education, late Senator Uche Chukwumerije, who died on April 19, following a protracted illness.

The eldest son of the deceased, Chidi, made the announcement on Monday while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the late senator’s burial.

He said the valedictory service, which would take place at the senate chamber, would be followed later by a night of tributes at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton hotels in Abuja by 6:00pm.

Flanked by members of the burial committee, headed by Senator Ben Obi, Chidi said that his father’s body would depart Abuja airport at 7:00am on Thursday, May 21, after a brief ceremony, for the Enugu airport, where another brief reception ceremony would be held, upon arrival at the coal city.

He said the body would move straight from the airport for his home town, Isuochi, where the lying-state would take place around 2:00pm while the service of songs would follow at 8:00pm.

The funeral service, he added would take place on Friday, May 22 at 11:00am while the interment would follow immediately in his compound.
