Nigeria’s Female senior national team has arrived in Toronto for their training tour ahead of the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons flew out of Abuja on Wednesday night aboard an Air France airline and landed in Paris around 5:45am local time (same as Nigeria) after a five and half hour trip. The team transitted at the Charles De Gaulle airport for 5 hours before connecting their flight to Toronto.
They were welcomed by Nigeria Deputy High Commissioner to Canada, Charles N. Onianwa, on arrival at the Pearson International airport in Toronto.
Onianwa charged the girls to uphold the image of the country, saying: ” I must first and foremost welcome you to Canada because the tournament we are all looking forward to is a very important one. Last year, the Falconets did us proud here and now we have the Super Falcons, so expectations are high and we have no doubt that you are going to clinch the cup.”
In his response, Coach Edwin Okon said that Super Falcons’ arrival heralds the coming of the champions. “Our arrival is that of champions. We are ready and I look forward to the finals and getting the cup here in Canada.”
The ladies were reunited with captain Evelyn Nwabuoku and Francisca Ordega, who were already in Toronto waiting at the Novotel Hotel lodge.
Training is expected to start on Thursday morning (Canada time).
