Renowned televangelist, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, was today honoured with a doctorate degree by his alma mater, Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, Edo state.

The Edo state born pastor was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) at a special convocation ceremony. The award conferment took place at the Loveworld Multipurpose Hall which was donated to the school by Pastor Chris.


The pastor with a cult-like followership started his ministry, Believers’ Loveworld, when he was a student of the school then known as Bendel State University as a fellowship group. Then the fellowship was known as Christian Fellowship BLW Latter Church Ministry. Pastor Chris studied architecture.

Pastor Chris had earlier this year donated a multimillion naira 650 capacity auditorium to his alma mater. He also donated a 100KVA generator to the school.

According to Forbes magazine, the Christ Embassy pastor, Oyakhilome, is one of the richest pastors in Nigeria having put his worth at $50 million dollars.

Others to be conferred with honourary degrees at 19th convocation of the school coming up on Saturday, June 13, are Chief David Edebiri, the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, who would be honoured with Doctor of Letter, and a business mogul, Chief Lee Ikpea, who will bag the Doctor of Business.
