President Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to criticisms over President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent travels to Chad and Niger.

According to the party, the ‘shuttle diplomacy’ is aimed at forging a stronger regional front against the Boko Haram insurgency. This, the party said, should be commended rather than being criticized.

The APC, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that any solution to the crisis brought about by Boko Haram must be regional in nature.

“Besides, it said since terrorism has assumed a global dimension, no nation, not even the superpower United States, can fight the growing menace alone. This is why even in our days in opposition, we advocated a regional solution to the crisis,” APC said.

The party further stated that Buhari’s visit to Chad and Niger, the two other countries worst hit by Boko Haram insurgency, showed that the need for regional cooperation in the fight.

Boko Haram attacks have intensified since Buhari assumed power on May 29, prompting his trip to Chad and Niger to discuss a regional effort that could fasttrack the efforts to end the activities of the terrorists in the region.
