The Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has faulted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Lasun Yusuf, for accepting to contest last week’s election at the House, describing him as a disloyal party member.
The elders in a communique issued in Osogbo, the state capital yesterday, said the deputy speaker, who is representing Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun/Orolu Federal Constituency of Osun State, allowed his personal interest to move him against the party.
The communique was signed by the Secretary of the APC Elders Council, Mr. Felix Awofisayo and a prominent lawyer, who is a member of the council, Chief Gbadegesin Adedeji.
The party leaders not only condemned Yusuf’s alleged action, which they described as betrayal, they also called for appropriate sanctions against him.
The communique read, “The acceptance of the office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representaives by Hon. Lasun Yusuf is not only a despicable act of betrayal and disloyalty to the party, but also a breach and negation of our party’s directive on the issue.
“Hon. Lasun Yusuf allowed himself to be overwhelmed and driven by admixture of personal interest and valuing ambition detrimental to the progress and stability of the party that nurtured him and on whose platform he was elected in the first place.
“His action, if allowed to remain, is capable of promoting indiscipline and elevating treachery and rebellion to an art.
“We condemn this anti-party tendency on the part of Hon. Lasun Yusuf without reservation and we hereby dissociate ourselves from it”.
The APC elders also pledged their support and loyalty to Governor Rauf Aregbesola while urging him to continue with his effort to develop the state, saying “when the going is tough the tough gets going”.
