British High Commissioner Visits Saraki, Pledges U.K. Support For Senate

Bukola-SarakiThe United Kingdom has pledged support for the Nigerian Senate, led by Bukola Saraki.

The pledge was made Friday by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, who paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Saraki, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.

According to NAN, Mr. Pocock promised Britain’s support for the Nigerian Senate.

While congratulating Mr. Saraki on the success of his election, the High Commissioner assured that the United Kingdom will always walk closely with Nigeria government in ensuring good governance at all levels.

In his response, the Senate President lauded the continued bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the UK, assuring that the present administration is determined to fulfill its obligations to the betterment of the nation.

Mr. Saraki stressed that Nigeria will always look forward to Britain in areas of infrastructural development and socio-security.

“I am very delighted to receive Your Excellency in my office barely 48 hours to my resumption to office. This shows the level of commitment the British government has towards the course of Nigeria.

“We look forward for a very good working relationship in order to move our dear country forward. Nigerians deserve the best of governance”, he said.

The Senate President, who did not mince words in reminding Mr. Pocock of the task ahead of the new administration in the country, noted that with the collaboration from the United Kingdom, those challenges are surmountable.

Senators in attendance at the meeting included Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Abdullahi Ibrahim, Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Abdulrahman Abubakar, Senator Misau Isah Hamma and Senator Rafiu Ibrahim.
