‘Crushing Boko Haram Will Remain A Priority Of My Govt’

President BuhariPresident Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolence to the President and people of the Republic of Chad on the twin suicide bombings, which took place in N’Djamena, the country’s capital on Monday.

The attack at the country’s police headquarters, which killed 23 people, mostly cadets, who were graduating from the police academy and wounded more than 100, has been blamed on Boko Haram.

President Buhari also condoled the people and government of Borno State over the death of over 60 people from explosion triggered by abandoned explosives in Monguno town.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu last night, the President vowed that crushing the Boko Haram insurgency remained his administration’s priority.

Shehu said Buhari conveyed his condolences in a telephone call to President Idriss Deby at 5.30pm yesterday.

He quoted the president as saying: “Chad has been on the frontline of the regional fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.

“They have stood by us through the worst and most difficult times of the challenges we have faced with terrorism. You also have our support during this difficult time”.

According to Shehu, Buhari added that it was sad and pitiful that the terrorists had extended their brutal cowardice to the neighbouring country, but expressed hope that it was only a matter of time before the insurgents would be flushed out and dealt with.

In the case of Borno, the statement said President Buhari assured the people of the state of the commitment of his administration to degrade the insurgency, which had necessitated the relocation of the command centre of the military to its hotbed.

“Crushing Boko Haram will remain a priority of my government”, the statement quoted Buhari as saying.
