England defender, Phil Jagielka has signed a one-year contract extension at Everton which will keep him at the club till 2018.
The centre-back has been at Goodison Park since July 2007 and had, in 2013, penned a previous four-year extension. He featured 37 times for the Tofees last season, scoring four goals.
“It’s always nice to feel wanted,” said Jagielka. “Being rewarded with the extra year gives me that motivation to keep striving to get better and to keep going for as long as possible.
“It wasn’t the longest negotiations ever – it only took a couple of minutes rather than hours. I love it here, I want to stay here and thankfully enough the club felt the same.”
Signed from Sheffield United for then-£4m, Jagielka has made 293 appearances for Everton in all competitions.
The former England Under-21 has been capped 36 times at full international level and was part of Toy Hodgson’s squad at Euro 2012 and 2014 Fifa World Cup.
