The Minority Leader of the 7th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the House’s speakership.
Gbajabiamila polled 154 votes in a mock primaries conducted by the leadership of the party in Abuja on Saturday. But this did not go down well with his rival, Hon. Yakubu Dogara who walked out from the premises with his supporters after he was announced to have polled 3 votes.
Choice of leadership of the National Assembly is threatening to cause divisions in the APC. The party’s leadership have maintained that choosing leaders for the legislative chambers will not affect the unity in the party. The coming weeks will be defining for the party, as it ensures grievances resulting from the party’s final choice of leaders for the Senate and House of Representatives are properly addressed.
