The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee will recommend that Keshi be shown the exit door if it were proven that he applied to the head coach position of the Ivory Coast national team, top official has confirmed.
The 53-year-old coach appeared before a disciplinary committee in Abuja on Tuesday and denied ever applying for the Ivory Coast job.
Meanwhile, the NFF has began an investigation and would not hold back on visiting Abidjan to unearth the truth of the matter.
Vice-president of the NFF Disciplinary Committee, Iyke Ibokwe, said: “If it were proven that he indeed applied to coach Côte d’Ivoire when he is still coaching the Super Eagles, then is a breach of trust.
“We will then recommend (to the Executive Committee) that he be relieved of his job so that he could go and coach Côte d’Ivoire.”
Keshi signed a fresh two-year contract as coach of the Super Eagles in April, marking his third-coming with the three-time African champions.
He led the country to their most recent Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) triumph in South Africa during his first spell in 2013. That contract ended after the 2014 FIFA World Cup and was not renewed.
Keshi then returned as Eagles coach on a match-by-match basis, but that agreement ended after his failure to guide the side to the 2015 Afcon, which was won by the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
