Amid the heightened tension generated by the scramble for leadership positions in the soon-to-be inaugurated 8th National Assembly, the leadership of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, has summoned all the federal lawmakers elected on its platform to a meeting.
The scramble for Senate Presidency and Speakership positions of the Senate and House of Representatives respectively, has divided the APC as the party has been unsuccessful in speaking with one voice on the contentious matter.
In a last ditch attempt to salvage the situation, the APC leadership is to meet with Senators-elect and members-elect of the House in Abuja on Thursday.
It was learnt that the major focus of the meeting is how to seek a peaceful resolution among the various contenders for the various positions in a way that party supremacy would not be jeopardized.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Tuesday, announced that the party “will hold a crucial meeting with all its Senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect on Thursday, the June 4 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja”.
According to the statement, the party’s leadership would meet with its Senators-elect at 10am while the meeting with its elected members of the House of Representatives was scheduled for 2pm on the same day at the same venue.
