Police Arrests Three With N4.9m Counterfeit Notes In Minna

Nigeria-police-logo-360x225The Niger State Police Command has nabbed three persons for allegedly trading in counterfeit Naira notes worth N4.9 million, said to have been collected from Kaduna State.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Minna, the Niger State capital, the police spokesperson, Bala Elkana, revealed that the suspects were arrested following a tip off.

According to the police spokesman, CID (Criminal Investigation Department) operatives of the state command swung into action immediately and arrested one Mohammed Abubakar in Kpakungu, Minna, with the counterfeit currency.

He added that following further digging, two other suspects, Ibrahim Mohammed and Mohammed Baba Jiya, were arrested.

Mr. Elkana said further investigations revealed that Ibrahim Mohammed made the connection and brought the counterfeit NOTES from one Alh Ali and Abdullahi both in Kaduna State to be traded in Niger State.

In an interview, the suspects confessed that they intended selling the counterfeit money for a lesser amount.

Mohammed said, “What we intended to do is that we give N1m of the counterfeit money and collect N200,000 of real money”.

The suspect pleaded for mercy, saying they were first-time offenders, adding that they had not sold the counterfeit currency to anybody within Minna before they were caught.
