Sunshine Too Good for Pillars as IfeanyiUbah Thrash El-Kanemi on the Road

Sunshine Stars continued their impressive run with a 3-0 win at home to Kano Pillars as FC IfeanyiUbah and Enugu Rangers beat El-Kanemi Warriors and Warri Wolves respectively on the road.

Nigeria Professional Football League returned on Sunday with champions Kano Pillars faced with a huge task of unsettling leaders Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township stadium to leapfrog coach Kennedy Boboye’s side at the summit.

‘Sai Masu Gida’ were without their midfield lord Rabiu Ali and goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai, and not even Moses Ekpai’s prowess on a humid afternoon in the South-Western city could stave off the defeat.

Paul Onobi placed the Akure Gunners in ascendancy on 25 minutes, getting on the end of a Dele Olorundare cross to power his flashing header beyond goalkeeper John Lawrence.

Pillars tried to get numbers behind the ball, but could not convert their chances as Ikechukwu Ezenwa did well to push an Adamu Hassan pile-driver over the bar.

Olulayo Seun doubled Sunshine’s lead in the 57th minute, latching on to a rebound of Tunde Adeniji’s shot to poke into an empty net.

Dayo Ojo completed scoring from the penalty spot nine minutes from time after Nura Mohammed was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area.

The win takes Sunshine point haul to 26 after 13 round of matches and they sit pretty at the top of the standings.

FC IfeanyiUbah defeated El-Kanemi 4-1 in Kastina. Uchechukwu Onyedikachi opened scoring for the Nnewi side on 14 minutes. Solomon Eludi doubled the visitors’ advantage three minutes later.

Eludi grabbed his second two minutes after the hour mark and Onyedikachi wqs not going to miss out on a brace of his own, better still with a fine solo effort, On 70 minutes; rounding off an impressive victory on the road.

Razaq Adegbite’s 18th-minute strike was enough for ten-man Rangers to outlast Wolves at the Warri City stadium, despite the ‘Flying Antelopes’ losing Etim Matthew to a straight red card for dissent on 33 minutes.
