Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State, Alhaji Uba Nana, has said that the North East must unite in order to give all necessary support to the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, so that his achievements will be a reality.
The new Speaker represents Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency of Bauchi State in the National Assembly.
Mr. Nana, who spoke Sunday when the North-East Concerned Citizens group, which campaigned for Dogara, paid him a courtesy visit, expressed dismay with the attitude of some lawmakers from the North East zone, who he accused of abandoning their very own at a time when he needed them most.
The Bauchi APC chairman, therefore, urged Dogara to embrace all for the interest and development of the area.
This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s deputy coordinator, Alhaji Salisu Sabo and made available to reporters in Abuja.
“We must come together to bring about stability and unity in the north-east, so as to make the achievement of the Yakubu Dogara a reality by giving him all the necessary support and encouragement he may require”, he said.
The statement further quoted Sabo as pledging that their group will go round the north-east geopolitical zone and canvass support for the new Speaker among the zone’s leaders.
He added that in days to come, his group will visit former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, all the North-East APC governors and other political leaders in the zone in order to garner support for Dogara in his new assignment as the Speaker of the 8th House.
“We have learnt that most of the lawmakers from the north-east region did not vote for Dogara. Certainly, for success, the Speaker needs support from all over the country but particularly his home base. Dogara is our success altogether.
“We therefore call on you to give this distinguished Nigerian support through advices and guidance and even constructive criticisms. The Speaker so much looks up to you for support and I can assure you he is ever ready to give listening ears to all manner of suggestions and even constructive criticisms”, Sabo said.
