Jimeta Market

An emergency official in Nigeria says over 30 people were killed in a blast at Jimeta Market, Yola, Adamawa State.

“So far, we have 31 dead victims and 38 people in hospital receiving treatment,” the National Emergency Management Agency’s coordinator in the city Sa’ad Bello told AFP.

“Some whose injuries were not severe were discharged,” he added.

The blast happened at about 7:40 pm when traders and buyers were leaving the market.

Although Islamist sect Boko Haram has not claimed responsibity for the attack, the militant grroup is believed to be responsible.

The aatack puts President Muhammadu Buhari on the edge as he seeks to root out insurgency from the country.

More than 15,000 people have been killed by the Boko Haram since 2009.
