The Media Team of the immediate-past governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda, has reacted to reports that 22 cars were recovered from three of the four wives of the former governor by the state government.
According to a statement issued by the team leader, Mr Jeff Kachikwu in Abuja on Sunday, the cars in question were allocated to the immediate-past governor and his official aides during his time in office, not to any of his wives. He claimed that the cars were voluntarily handed over to the appropriate authority within a week after Yuguda handed over.
“It therefore left much to be desired when the new administration in the state was alleging that Yuguda’s wives were ever in possession of the said cars.
“How can she (one of the wives alleged to be in possession of 11 cars) use government vehicles after leaving the office as the First Lady when she was not even a government official while in office?
“The truth is that the cars were being used by government officials who were entitled to the cars during the former governor’s time in office not to any of his wives.
“All the cars were duly handed over shortly after the hand-over date,’’ the media team said in the statement.
Chairman of the state’s Transition Committee, Senator Mohammed Mohammed had in a recent statement said that the state recovered 22 vehicles from the former governor’s wives. “We have so far, recovered a total of 22 cars from the wives of the former Governor, Isa Yuguda. We recovered 11 cars from his first wife, seven from the second wife and four from the third wife. We are yet to recover the remaining cars from his fourth wife who is currently out of the country.”
