Aregbesola Pays December 2014 Salary To Osun Workers

Rauf Aregbesola

Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola has paid the December 2014 salary of workers in the state and half of November salary of pensioners.

The payment is in fulfillment of the government’s promise to pay part of the seven to eight months salaries owed to workers and pensioners in the state.

“…we are glad to announce that we have commenced the process of paying the balance of November and full December salaries arrears for all our workers across the state and the process should be concluded by Friday, July 3, 2015. We are able to do this because our partners and creditors have faith in us and we have proven to be responsible and trustworthy,” a statement by Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon had said.

Despite the payment, the workers in the state who endured working without pay for about six months before going on strike will not resume work yet.

The state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had declared that strike would continue until the government accedes to their demand for the payment of five months’ salaries.

“As we continue to negotiate with the government and as the government continues to look for a way to pay our salaries, we want to call on our colleagues to remain at home until further notice,” NLC chairman, Babatunde Adekomi had said.

Osun is one of about 18 states in Nigeria that owe workers salaries of between three to eight months.
