The spate of political assassinations in Rivers State continued on Tuesday when a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers, Mr. Olala Osondu, was shot and killed by suspected assassins.
Osondu, was until his murder, an ex-officio member of the PDP in the state and the Secretary of the Grassroots Development Initiative – the political group funded by Nyesom Wike – in Rivers.
The deceased, who was said to be returning from a meeting around 12.30am, was trailed by the gunmen to his house located off Ada-George in Port Harcourt before they carried out the dastardly act.
It was also gathered that the wife to the deceased said she heard two gunshots few seconds after sighting her husband’s car in the dark.
She was said to have been in shock when she later found out that the gunshots she heard, were targeted at her dead husband.
Nothing was taken away from the deceased’s vehicle, even as his assailants reportedly fled after confirming their target had been killed.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, who confirmed the incident, told journalists that the police had begun investigation with a view to unmasking those behind the incident.
