Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district in the Senate Ben Murray-Bruce says it is not the government’s job to grow the economy.
In a series of tweets by the senator, he reiterated: “I keep repeating that its not govt’s job to grow the economy. Its govt’s job to grow the people and the people will then grow the economy. Its govt’s job to grow the people and the people will then grow the economy.”
He also stressed the need for leaders to seek knowledge by reading more. “I don’t know if its possible to lead without reading. The times I’ve grown as a leader seem to coincide with the times I grew as a reader.
“For Nigeria to make meaningful progress, our leaders have to be more interested in the price of leadership than in the perks of leadership,” Murray-Bruce said.
Several analysts have described leadership as the problem Nigeria has that has hindered its development over the years. However, hope seemed to rise following the election of President Muhammadu Buhari who won the March 28 polls riding on the mantra of change. Although not much of the expected buzz has been experienced since his inauguration, Nigerians remain hopeful.
