Coach Okey Emordi has been sacked as Kano Pillars coach, according to the Glo Premier League champions.
Emordi’s dismissal is understood to have been approved by newly appointed head of the Kano State-owned team’s executive board, Kabiru Baita.
Pillars are ninth on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table with 27 points from 19 matches, nine points adrift of leaders Sunshine Stars.
They were forced to a 3-3 draw away to Lobi Stars on Sunday, as the Nigerian league reaches its halfway stage.
Former rangers and Enyimba boss, Emordi, had lost both players’ and fans’ confidence and was recently spirited away from angry mob after their disappointing exit from the Federation Cup at the expense of lower league side Plateau United.
He guided Pillars to a third straight league title last season, following his appointment as Mohammed Baba Ganaru’s successor.
Emordi; however, could not help the Pyramid City outfit advance beyond the first rounds of the Caf Champions League in his one and a half seasons at the club.
Baita was named head of the new Pillars board on Sunday. The board will meet to decide on the way forward for the club on Tuesday.
