Osun NLC Warns Aregbesola Against Cutting Workers’ Salaries By Half

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Osun, Mr Jacob Adekomi, said the union would resist any attempt by the State Government to reduce workers’ salaries by 50 percent.

Speaking after an emergency meeting of the union in Osogbo today, Adekomi noted that the government had concluded plans to reduce workers’ salaries.

Although the NLC chairman did not cite a source, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adekomi’s assertion may not be unconnected with the recent 50 percent reduction in the salaries of political office holders as part of measures by the state to cut spending.

Osun workers just received a month out of the seven months salaries the government owes them. If the alleged salary reduction is effected, Adekomi said he gathered it will start from January 2015, meaning the government would have slashed the money owed to workers by half.

“If the plan is imposed on the workers, it will lead to unimaginable chaos,” he said.
