Enugu Rangers outlasted a resilient Kwara United side to advance into the last 8 of the 2015 Federation Cup in Abuja on Thursday evening.
Goals from Rasaq Adegbite, Bobby Clement and Emeka Eze secured a 3-2 victory for the ‘Flying Antelopes’, who will face El-Kanemi Warriors in the quarter-finals.
Warriors saw off previously high flying Plateau United by a lone goal earlier on Wednesday.
Rangers coach Imama Amakapabo told reporters after the match the team now has their sight set on winning the oldest football tournament in Nigeria this year.
It has been 32 years since their last success in the Federation Cup (then Challenge Cup), but Amakapabo is confident they could snap their barren run this term.
The coach was however not so impressed by his players’ slow pace in front of Kwara United’s goal, saying: “I am looking for a medication to cure it.”
Rangers are one of six Nigeria Professional Football League side to have advanced into the last eight of the competition so far.
The quarter-final matches are slated for August 12-13.
