Nigeria Under-20 women’s national team began their quest for a spot at the 2016 Fifa Women’s World Cup with a thumping 7-1 win over Liberia at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Yetunde Adeboyejo opened the floodgates in the 15th minute, before 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup strike partner Chinwendu Ihezuo added a second on the half hour mark.
Adeboyejo netted her second nine minutes before half time, but the Liberians got a goal four minutes later, to reduce their arrears 3-1 going into the half-time break.
Adeboyejo completed her hat-trick early in the second half, before Juliet Sunday netted the fifth goal in the 70th minute.
Amarachi Ojinma scored quick-fire brace late in the game to make it 7-1 to the Falconets.
The second half leg comes up in Nigeria in two weeks’ time.
