Wanyama Misses Kenya Trip Amid Continued Spurs Interest

Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama has not made the journey to join up with his international team-mates for next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as planned on Monday morning.

The 24-year-old is said to have asked to leave Premier League club Southampton FC, with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur on the pipeline.

Wanyama was left out of Ronald Koeman’s squad for Sunday’s 3-90 win over Norwich as the coach felt he was not “mentally and physically good enough to play.”

The Saints have already lost fellow midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United this summer and Koeman has insisted Wanyama and Sadio Manem who is wanted by Manchester United, would not be leaving before closure of summer transfers in England on Tuesday,

“They will stay in Southampton, I’m 100 per cent sure about that,” the Dutch manager told Sky Sports following Sunday’s 3-0 win at home to Norwich.

“The same answer for Victor as for Sadio, we don’t sell that kind of player because they are key players for the team and they have to respect the contract. That’s most important”.

The Harambee Stars are at home to Zambia in a 2017 Afcon qualifier on Sunday.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino signed Wanyama from Celtic in July 2013 for a reported fee of ÂŁ12.5m.
