Two-time governor of Kogi State Prince Abubakar Audu may have a third chance at the Kogi State top seat as he emerges as the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the November governorship election.

The former governor who was alleged to have looted the state’s funds and reportedly only left the sum of N500,000 for his successor as stated in a national daily, Sunday Sun on August 29, 2004, beat 19 other aspirants after garnering a total vote of 1109 in the APC Governorship primaries as announced by the Returning officer, Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

Although there are several allegations of improper conduct against the former governor, stakeholders in the Kogi State APC prefers Audu to the other candidates.

According to court papers dated May 19, 2010, exclusively obtained by THEWILL, Mrs. Aisha Audu, his wife, told Judge Dennis Michael McHugh of the District Court of Maryland, Montgomery County that Abubakar Audu physically assaulted her sometime in December 2009 in the US and March 2010 in Nigeria.

“The violence continued, he got physical by hitting, slapping, punching, throwing things at me and abusing me and the kids verbally in front of others including my step children…,” she was quoted to have said.

The Audu family mansion at 12301 Glen Road, Potomac, MD 20854 was allegedly paid for in cash by Prince Audu in 2001, a few months after he was sworn in as governor of the Confluence State.

In March, THEWILL also reported that Audu, who was being prosecuted at a Federal Capital Territory High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, for his alleged involvement in an N11 billion contract scam ordered his security aide (a police officer) to assault an operative of the EFCC, Haruna Ashade, for daring to take his photograph in court.

Audu will now represent APC in the November 21 governorship election in the state.
