Players of Glo Premier League club Giwa FC were attacked at 9th Mile (Enugu environ) on Monday on their way to honour a league match against Abia Warriors on Sunday.
AfricanFootball.com spoke with an official of the side, Sammy Adesoji, who confirmed that players who were part of the match day selection trip lost their mobile phones and cash during the raid.
“Our players were attacked by armed robbers at 9th mile. We thank God no life was lost,” Adesoji is quoted as saying by AfricanFootball.com.
“They were ahead of us, they continued the journey with escort given to them by soldiers on the road after they explained what happened to them.”
Reigning Nigerian champions Kano Pillars were victims of a worse misfortune earlier this season, when armed bandits opened fire on the team’s bus, resulting to several injuries to players.
