The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the appointment of Brig.-Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (retd.) as Chairman of the gubernatorial primary election committee for Bayelsa State.
The election is expected to hold today.
Dan Ali replaces Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, who said that in spite of the heavy presence of security personnel at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, venue of the election, last Tuesday, armed thugs still found their way and disrupted the exercise.
Oshiomhole insisted in his report to the national headquarters of the APC that no primary held last Tuesday as thugs hijacked the electoral process even as the police were helpless.
Speaking on the resolve to hold a new primary election, the National Organizing Secretary of APC, Sen Osita Izunaso, said authentic candidate of the party will emerge today.
According to him, “Because of what happened, we decided to get new set of people to conduct the primary and the chairman is Brig-General Masur Dan Ali.
“We have organised several conventions and primaries where we produced our candidates for various elections, but I don’t want to believe that the one in Bayelsa was problematic.
“All the 19 aspirants have agreed that they would participate and former governor Sylva is not resisting anything. I don’t want to go into the details of what happened and what did not happen because all the aspirants are abiding by the decision of the NWC. We heard from all the sides and we felt it is better to do a new exercise because we value the issue of internal democracy”.
