DSS Dismisses 57 ‘Illegally’ Recruited Cadet Officers

LAWAN-DAURAThe Department of State Services has dismissed 57 cadet officers undergoing training at its training institute in Lagos.

The affected trainees were said to have been dismissed for not meeting the basic entry requirements into the service.

They were said to have been shown the exit door from the training programme after failing the screening ordered by the service’s leadership, following reports of the anomalies that trailed their recruitment.

The dismissed officers were part of about 430 personnel participating in the Cadet Officers Basic Course 28 of 2014 code named COBC28/2014, who were expected to graduate as Senior Intelligence Officers after training.

According to sources in the know, the DSS leadership found out that some of the trainees did not meet the minimum service entry requirements including academic qualifications and physical fitness.

They were also said to have been selected through “the back door” due to the influence of senior officials in the service who facilitated their recruitment into the DSS.

There are unconfirmed reports one of the dismissed cadets is a blood relation to recently retired spokesperson for the service, Marilyn Ogar.
