Crops on the farm of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae in Ilado village, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been destroyed by cattle, belonging to Fulani herdsmen.
This happened barely two weeks after Falae was kidnapped for four days by suspected herdsmen from the farm.
The Farm Manager, Mr Bruno Akhigbodemen, alleged that the cows brought to the farm by the Fulani herdsmen, destroyed over one kilometre plantation of maize on Monday morning.
Conducting journalists round the farmland on Tuesday evening, Mr. Akhigbodemen explained that the herdsmen invaded the farm at about 2am on Monday, leading to the destruction of the plantation.
He explained that one of the workers, who saw the herdsmen, raised the alarm but before other workers could come around, they had fled with their cattle.
The farm manager added that immediately the former presidential candidate in the 1999 presidential election was informed of the latest incident, he reported it to the state Police Command after which some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, were deployed in the farm.
Describing the incident as devastating to his boss and the entire workers of the farm, the manager appealed to the government and the security agencies in the state to be proactive on the security of the farmland.
