Kano State Hisba Board has disclosed that the state government will give out 2, 000 widows and divorcees in marriage.
Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, the Director General of the board, Dr Abba Sufi, explained that the preparation followed the recent directive by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to the board to start preparation.
“The aim of the programme is to check prostitution and other social vices in the society, hence the decision of government to sustain it”.
According to him, the board has since commenced preparation for the event which is expected to take place before the end of the year.
Sufi said that the Board intended to introduce some innovations to improve on its programmes with a view to addressing other challenges.
He urged prospective couples to cooperate with the Board in order to ensure the success of the programme.
The state, in 2013, married 2, 450 couples in the programme introduced by, then Governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso. About 5,000 couples have benefitted so far.
