CCT Trial: Saraki Has Converted Senate Into His Personal Supporters Club – Ezekwesili

Ezekwesili-SarakiFormer World Bank Vice President (Africa), Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has again faulted Senate President Bukola Saraki for closing down the Senate so that senators can accompany him to  the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is currently undergoing trial for alleged false declaration of assets.

We’d earlier reported that Senator Dino Melaye (APC/Kogi West) denied that the Senate’s adjournment till Tuesday, November 10, had nothing to do with Saraki’s trial, which resumed today at the CCT in Abuja.

Reacting to the closure of the Senate via her Twitter handle on Thursday, Mrs. Ezekwesili, who has not failed to speak out against the ‘personalization’ of the upper legislative chamber by Mr. Saraki as a result of his ongoing trial, described his action as ‘selfish’.

“Selfishness is converting the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria into supporters club for your PERSONAL court case”, Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education as well as Solid Minerals, said in a tweet at Mr. Saraki.

  1. It is indeed a pity. I doubt if the Senators who follow Saraki to court to show solidarity to a person being prosecuted for flouting the law of the country they have sworn to uphold are truely aware of their responsibilites and the value and demand of the political offices they hold. Surely Nigeria deserves better! In future, the electorate will sanction political parties who present unpatriotic individuals by voting against them. Don’t forget that Jonathan and PDP are still reeling in the sledge-hammer blow they were dealt by the people in the last elections.
