New EFCC Chair: Are Southerners Incapable? Fani-Kayode Asks Buhari, Accuses Him Of Insensitivity

PMB-FFKA former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of “insensitivity” following the appointment of Ibrahim Magu as the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The president had on Monday appointed Magu from Borno State to replace Ibrahim Lamorde, another northerner at the head of EFCC.

It should be noteworthy that since its inception in 2003, the EFCC has been headed by only northerners – Nuhu Ribadu (Adamawa), Farida Waziri (Benue), Ibrahim Lamorde (Adamawa) and now Magu (Borno).

Mr. Buhari since taking the oath of office on May 29, has increasingly been accused of favouring the North over the South in terms of appointments, a claim he has continuously denied.

This allegation was resurrected by Mr. Fani-Kayode, erstwhile spokesperson of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization in the 2015 presidential election, who accused President Buhari of being “insensitive to the south”.

He made the allegation in a couple of tweets last night and went further to insinuate that appointments of this nature are what make the agitation for Biafra, which has escalated under the Buhari administration, a potent threat.

  1. Why don’t you zip up and let Mr. President choose whom he’s comfortable to work with? Insensitivity my ass! You people always fan amber of dis unity. The President has chosen whom he’s comfortable with. If you feel otherwise, apply for the position. Don’t worry about labeling me as APC card carrying member cos I don’t belong to any political party. Give the President a breathing space.
