The commercial city of Aba is the latest city in the South East of Nigeria to witness Pro-Biafra protests as the commercial city witnessed a procession today by members of the Move­ment for the Ac­tualization of the Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Independent Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB). 

Today.ng reports that markets and other socio-economic activities in Aba, were today, November 9, paralyzed following the protests.

The protesters are agitating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu who is currently being held by Nigerian authorities for running a pirate radio station – Radio Biafra that is pushing for the Sovereign State of Biafra.

The protesters defied the heavy presence of a combined joint patrol of the Nigeria police and army, and continued their protests around Aba North, South local government councils,  which prompted residents to close their businesses for fear of been caught up in the expected clashes between the protesters and security agencies.

Meanwhile, there have been no reported cases of any casualties so far.  As at this morning, business activities at Ariaria, Eziukwu, Ngwa road and Cemetery have all been forced to close down for business.

It will be recalled that IPOB supporters has been protesting against Kanu’s detention in Rivers, Anambra, Enugu and Delta states.

In a related development, a former Biafran leader, Chief Joseph Achuzia, has lambasted former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, for describing pro-Biafra supporters as miscreants.
