Virgin Atlantic To Stop Flying To Nigeria, Sacks Cabin Crew – Report

British flag carrier, Virgin Atlantic Airways is removing the Nigerian route from its schedule. Although it is yet to officially announce its pull out, The Nation reports that the company has issued sack letters to its Nigerian cabin crew.

The newspaper noted that the airline’s exit from the Nigerian market may be connected with its disappointment over promises by government on its operations in the country.

“Virgin Atlantic Airways has laid off all their Nigerian cabin crew. They were only given three weeks notice and no severance package regardless of their length of service will be paid.

“The air-hostesses they sacked were about 20 and last year, they closed down their Nigerian call centre and let go of all the Nigerian staff,” The Nation quoted a source to have said.

Meanwhile, aviation unions have vowed to ensure that the entitlements of Nigerian cabin crew are paid in line with relevant provisions .
