Seventeen members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Thursday impeached the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh over allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct.
The Assembly has 25 members comprising 14 Peoples Democratic Party and 11 All Progresives Congress lawmakers.
It was however learnt that Jimoh’s impeachment may be connected with the high wire politics currently playing out in the state to placate the people of Kogi East.
The governor-elect of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello hails from the same Okene Local Government Area of the state as the impeached speaker.
In a related development, the member representing Ogori/Magongo State Constituency in the House, Hon. Godwin Osiyi, has emerged as the new Speaker.
